You and I Belong Together

Music and lyrics by Rhoda Daniel, © 1994

Why's it so hard for you to know me?
Can't you just hear the words I say?
Is there a reason you don't want me?
Why do you let love slip away?

Chorus:
You and I belong together.
You've got to know that same as I.
But our future's hanging like a feather,
Adrift upon a dark night sky.

I'm almost feeling now I've lost you,
Even though you must know it shouldn't be.
Love, don't let it happen, it will cost you,
No one can replace you or me.

(Chorus)

Something's got to bring you to your senses,
Make you see before it is too late.
We've only got so many second chances.
Can't you see how much you're tempting fate?

(Chorus)

Inspiration

You and I Belong Together was based on an unusual experience I had while listening to a psychologist lecture at a cancer clinic I was at with my best friend who later died. In the middle of his lecture the most amazing vision popped up in the middle of my view—a mirror image dance with him, something I'd never seen in all the time on dance floors! We met for breakfast one morning and the energy we created together as we shared was so unusual I actually felt we could accomplish anything in life we wanted. But it was obviously one-sided and went nowhere but in a song!

Acknowldgements

I want to thank both Robb Tripp and Walt Harrah for the wonderful job they both did to make this album a reality. I am grateful to you both; you are both gifted producers. And a special thank you to all the great musicians and arrangers who were a part of this project.

The original production under Robb Tripp in TN was titled: Country Christian and produced in the Nashville area with a live band of superb musicians. I could tell them what I was hearing for each song and they not only gave me what I asked, but way beyond as well.

Three songs were produced in CA with Walt Harrah. Besides being a producer, he is also a talented singer. I was delighted when he agreed to be the singer on both Fire Insurance (about accepting Jesus), and The Wolves Are Out (about the importance of judging by fruits). He was also my duet partner in 45 & Holding (about always putting God off). He's also particularly gifted at harmony. He could lay down 4 harmony tracks in succession without even one sour or missed note.
