Red Man, White Man

Music and lyrics by Rhoda Daniel, © 1991

Red man, white man, yellow, black, or brown,
Why should any of us be put down?
Our hearts all beat and our bodies bleed.
We all know sorrow and pain and need.

Chorus
Which one chose red or black, which yellow, brown or white?
Thank God, all are precious in His sight.
For imagine your life had you landed in a different color of skin.
Yes, imagine your life had you landed in a different color of skin!

White man, black man, yellow, brown or red,
Why should we be hated for deeds of those long dead?
We're here and we're now and our babies are small,
Let's teach them all to stand proud and tall.

(Chorus)

Brown man, yellow man, red, white or black,
If we don't pull together we'll all know lack.
There's too many foes out to destroy.
Poverty and drugs steal every man's joy.

(Chorus)

Yellow man, black man, white, brown or red,
We cannot alter words we already said.
But our hearts can change and our love increase,
Until we all live in joy and peace.

(Chorus)

Inspiration

Red Man, White Man is a brotherhood of man tribute born from a song I loved as a child—“Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight! Jesus loves the little children of the world!” There are so many verses to accommodate each race having a lead rhyme.

Acknowldgements

I want to thank both Robb Tripp and Walt Harrah for the wonderful job they both did to make this album a reality. I am grateful to you both; you are both gifted producers. And a special thank you to all the great musicians and arrangers who were a part of this project.

The original production under Robb Tripp in TN was titled: Country Christian and produced in the Nashville area with a live band of superb musicians. I could tell them what I was hearing for each song and they not only gave me what I asked, but way beyond as well.

Three songs were produced in CA with Walt Harrah. Besides being a producer, he is also a talented singer. I was delighted when he agreed to be the singer on both Fire Insurance (about accepting Jesus), and The Wolves Are Out (about the importance of judging by fruits). He was also my duet partner in 45 & Holding (about always putting God off). He's also particularly gifted at harmony. He could lay down 4 harmony tracks in succession without even one sour or missed note.
