Lord, It's Hard When Loved Ones Die

Music and lyrics by Rhoda Daniel, © 1995

Thoughts of missing you run deep, and tears burn in my eyes.
Then softly I hear God's voice: "My love, you need not cry."
"She's in my hands; she's here with me. Why would you wish her back?"
"When untold joy is hers with me; she has no regret or lack."

Chorus:
But Lord, it's hard when loved ones die still in the prime of life.
Lord, it's hard not to cry, when pain cuts through like a knife.
Lord, it's hard, it's just so hard, but I'll heed and trust in you.
For, Lord, deep down I know You know and I give it all to you.
I give it all to you.

Some days are productive days, and some days I seem to lose,
My thoughts in a foggy haze, my temper on a fuse.
But then I remember, Lord, the words you spoke to me.
"She's just stepped through another door, she's happy as can be!"

(Chorus)

"One day at a time", they say, is all we have to bear.
Just hang tight to God each day, stay in His loving care.
But sometimes I forget to remember You're right here.
And that in the past You've always met my every need and fear.

(Chorus)

Inspiration

Lord It's Hard (When Loved Ones Die) was another cathartic song. I was caregiver for my best friend who was like a member of our family. It was like losing a sister when she died.

Acknowldgements

I want to thank both Robb Tripp and Walt Harrah for the wonderful job they both did to make this album a reality. I am grateful to you both; you are both gifted producers. And a special thank you to all the great musicians and arrangers who were a part of this project.

The original production under Robb Tripp in TN was titled: Country Christian and produced in the Nashville area with a live band of superb musicians. I could tell them what I was hearing for each song and they not only gave me what I asked, but way beyond as well.

Three songs were produced in CA with Walt Harrah. Besides being a producer, he is also a talented singer. I was delighted when he agreed to be the singer on both Fire Insurance (about accepting Jesus), and The Wolves Are Out (about the importance of judging by fruits). He was also my duet partner in 45 & Holding (about always putting God off). He's also particularly gifted at harmony. He could lay down 4 harmony tracks in succession without even one sour or missed note.
