Inspiration

Keep It Up definitely needs explaining! I loved Roy Rogers so much as a kid that I wanted to do a tribute to him. When I first wrote it, he was still alive as was everyone in the song! Then, one by one, he and some of the others I so admired and had included in the song, were gone. Those that are still here, I hope you get to hear it someday. I truly admire our country singers. Dolly is one of my personal favorites, and Reba. And Garth opened up the world of country to me in a way I never dreamed could happen. The song speaks for itself along those lines! But whether you're named or not, if you sing country, my hat's off to you! You're the best!

Keep It Up

Music and lyrics by Rhoda Daniel, © 1991

Dolly, I want to meet you, I've always admired you!
The way you treat all people, the witnessing you do.
I want to tell you here and now my hat is off to you.
Keep it up, there's still too few of you!

Chorus:
Keep it up Roy and Dale, Dolly, Johnny Cash and Chet!
Keep it up Roy Clark, George and Garth, Vince, Reba and the Rest!
Although there's quite a lot of you,
There's still so much work to do,
I hope you think you need me too.

Garth, I've wanted to thank you since I heard that "Last Dance" song.
You turned my heart to country, made me see I could belong.
Even though I cannot warble, the way that Dolly can,
I'll sing like you with my heart here in my hand!

There's still so much work to do,
I hope you think you need me too.

Roy, you've been my hero since I was just a kid!
You always beat the bad guys no matter what they did.
With Dale, your faithful partner, and the children you've called yours,
You showed us how to open heaven's doors!

Chorus:
Keep it up Roy and Dale, Dolly, Johnny Cash and Chet!
Keep it up Boys, Sweethearts, Kenny, Ricky and the Rest!
Although there's quite a lot of you,
There's still so much work to do,
I hope you think you need me too.
Yes, I hope you think you need me too!

Acknowldgements

I want to thank both Robb Tripp and Walt Harrah for the wonderful job they both did to make this album a reality. I am grateful to you both; you are both gifted producers. And a special thank you to all the great musicians and arrangers who were a part of this project.

The original production under Robb Tripp in TN was titled: Country Christian and produced in the Nashville area with a live band of superb musicians. I could tell them what I was hearing for each song and they not only gave me what I asked, but way beyond as well.

Three songs were produced in CA with Walt Harrah. Besides being a producer, he is also a talented singer. I was delighted when he agreed to be the singer on both Fire Insurance (about accepting Jesus), and The Wolves Are Out (about the importance of judging by fruits). He was also my duet partner in 45 & Holding (about always putting God off). He's also particularly gifted at harmony. He could lay down 4 harmony tracks in succession without even one sour or missed note.
